PGA Professional Staff

Dean Hurst, PGA Head Golf Professional, has been on board since the founding of Bayville in 1996.  Dean's foresight and long-term commitment play an important role in the day-to-day success of the Club.  In 2007, the Middle Atlantic PGA names Dean "2007 PGA Golf Professional of the Year."  In 2003, Golf Digest magazine ranked Dean as one of the top five PGA teaching professionals in the state of Virginia.  He currently serves as President for the Middle Atlantic PGA.

Carlton Dove, the Club's PGA Director of Instruction, is a graduate of the professional Golf Management Program at Campbell University.  After graduating, Carlton received his PGA membership status and began working at Bayville in 2005.  Carlton is a Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Certified Golf Fitness Instructor.  He coordinates the Club's golf instruction programs, the Junior Golf Program, the Ladies' Golf School and, of course, individual one-on-one instruction using the latest technology and video analysis.

Rick Westbrook, the Club's PGA Assistant Professional, has served Bayville since 1996.  Rick has given countless lessons to Bayville members and junior players.  He plays a vital role in the day-to-day golf operations.

Adam Rhea, the Club's Assistant Professional, is presently seeking his PGA membership status.  He began working at Bayville in 2001 originally as a caddie.  While attending college, Adam worked his way up the service staff and was promoted to Assistant Professional in 2009.

Lessons/Golf Instruction

The value of qualified instruction as a method to improve and advance in golf scoring is often overlooked.  The PGA Professional Staff offers individual and groups lessons, as well as digital video analysis of your golf swing.  One lesson often unlocks unlimited scoring potential by correcting basic flaws in swing, grip, posture and set-up.  The Club has on staff a dedicated PGA Director of Instruction who is certified as a Level 2 Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Certified Golf Fitness Instructor who coordinates most of Bayville's golf instruction programs including monthly clinics, junior golf programs, golf schools, short game instruction programs and specializes in K-Vest TPI 3-D instruction, lessons, training and fitness.

Website smarterlessons.com

The Golf Shop has subscribed to a state-of-the-art online lesson booking system.  When members log onto the Smarter Lessons website, they are able to see available times for booking lessons with the PGA Professional Staff.   It is the desire of the PGA Professional Staff to steadily increase usage of this sytem by the members in lieu of booking by phone or in person.  Members booking lessons online will receive an e-mail confirmation immediately after booking a lesson, receive a reminder e-mail 48 hours in advance and have the ability to cancel a lesson online if necessary.

Spring Demo Days

Each spring in May and June, the PGA Professional Staff extends invitations to various well known club manufacturers such as Callaway, TaylorMade, Titleist and Cobra to set up on the practice facility tee and allow members to try the latest in quality golf equipment.  Experienced representatives from the companies are on hand to advise and point out the lastest technology in golf clubs.  It is the right way to purchase clubs . . . experience the feel and be confident about your purchase.

Club Fitting During the Year

Throughout the year, the PGA Professional Staff is trained to help members with custom fitting for all equipment needs.  The fitting process is simple and educational.  To play your best, it is very important to have the equipment that is right for you.  The Golf Shop has an extensive Golf Club Demo Program for members' convenience all year long.

Ladies' Golf School

Each spring, the PGA Professional Staff conducts a Ladies' Golf School, usually six sessions over two weeks, covering all facets of the game, including full swing fundamentals, short game chipping and pitching techniques, bunker play and putting.  In addition, basic golf rules and golf course etiquette are covered in each session.  Each year, it is a great refresher course for the beginner and the intermediate player.  Also, the Ladies' Golf School provides a great opportunity to renew acquaintances and make new friends at the Club.

Junior Golf Program

The goal of Bayville's Junior Golf Program is to provide increased levels of instruction based on a junior's ability throughout the season.  Besides teaching how to play and providing opportunities to compete, our program teaches etiquette, the rules of golf, behavior on the course and some of the values, history and traditions of the game.  The program is designed for youngsters to have fun while learning a lifelong skill.  Program objectives include:  (1)  learning the game, (2) development of skills, (3) opportunities for personal achievement and (4) recognition of participation and achievement.   During the season, the Club offers a Parent-Child Championship, Parent-Child Open, Junior Club Championship and a Junior Club Open.

The Club's two Junior Golf Schools in June and August are designed to have a student-teacher ratio of 10 to 1 or better.  Juniors experience intense instruction on the golf course and on the practice facility.  The PGA Professional Staff teaches the fundamentals of full swing, short game, coruse management, etiquette and care of the course.  On the final day of each Junior Golf School, there is a "skills challenge" followed by a cookout and an awards presentation.
